Advanced Driving Features Overview
Vehicle Detection (VD)
This is one of the common functions where it automatically detects Cars, Trucks, Buses, Bicycles and other transport system depending on the capability and software implementation strategy. Some applications related to this feature includes Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Advanced Emergency Braking (AEB). Feature performance may have consideration with detection range, detection rate and speed requirement.
Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
This feature provides the ability to track objects in the vehicle forward field of view. Object includes vehicles and pedestrians. It alerts the driver to act upon potential collisions between an object and a vehicle with a certain detection requirements. This is one of the most important safety feature to avoid collision and to mitigate the speed for collision.
Lane Detection
Detects and quantify the geometry of the lane ahead of the host vehicle and verify its main properties as type of the lane boundary. It is being performed by capturing video images of the scene ahead of the host vehicle and process the images to identify the number of properties on the road ahead. Some of the lane markings identified are continuous (solid) lines, dotted lines, combinations of double lines that could indicate whether the boundary is crossable or not. The result of lane detection function as calculated by the system will be a key input for other driver assistance features including Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW).
Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
This function enables to alert the driver of an impending or unintentional lane departure of the vehicle due to distractions. Most commonly with the use of acoustic signals or vibrations. Some versions of this feature could react and steer away from the lane edge and even keeping the car centered on the lanes.
Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)
This feature detects different traffic signs and speed limits and displays the speed limit information to the driver on the road where the vehicle is currently running. This is one of the features for Advanced Driving Assist System (ADAS). Some configuration enables to warn the driver when the speed limit is exceeded.
Object Detection (OD)
This function enables the ability to detect and track multiple objects in the host vehicle field of view. It is performed by capturing video images of the scene ahead of the vehicle and process the images using different algorithm or techniques to identify the locations of objects, as well as the properties of the objects.
